ASIAN SOLIDARITY
PTSA Anti-Asian Hate Statement and Supports
The Shorewood High School PTSA stands in solidarity with our Asian/Asian-American/Pacific Islander (AAAPI) students, families and staff. The March 16th, 2021 attack in Atlanta is a heartbreaking example of ongoing discrimination, violence, and objectification towards AAAPI and women in our country.
We recognize that racism against AAAPI people goes back centuries in our country. The Shorewood High School PTSA denounces all forms of white supremacy and acts of violence and hate towards AAAPI and all People of Color. As per WSPTA resolution 2.26 Dismantling Institutional and Systemic Racism, our PTSA will continue to look for ways to uphold inclusivity and allyship with people of all races, ethnicities, and cultures. We also align ourselves with the Washington State PTA Stands in Solidarity with Asian American Community statement.
ANTI AAAPI HATE RESOURCES
We urge our school community to seek opportunities to learn and build skills to become anti-racist as individuals and families. Here are some resources to explore:
-
First and foremost, support your AAAPI neighbors and friends, teachers, staff and students in the ways they ask for. Check in on them. Let them know that you stand in solidarity. Allow time and space for healing.
